When it rains, multiple-time carriage driving champion Jeanette Haislip is definitely not singing in it.  A victim of multiple horse-carriage related injuries including concussions and broken bones, Haislip says rain poses several safety issues, "the horses can slip in the mud and if they go down, that means the carriage might tip too."

Haislip says the horses do not mind the rain, but she does, "Sometimes that feeling of instability can be unsettling but they have to be driven to keep up their endurance for competition, so driving in the rain is necessary."

When driving in the rain, Haislip takes extra precaution by taking slow, wide turns.  This prevents the carriage from becoming unstable while also preventing hoove slippage.
