Inspired by the 2004 horror Thai movie Shutter, the Du Some Ayers Productions at UT decided to do a short remake of Shutter called Siren.
The original movie Shutter is about a ghost who haunts a photographer and his girlfriend after they hit a girl (ghost) in a car accident. They found supernatural shadows in their photos after fleeing the accident scene. The photographer investigates the supernatural phenomenon and finds that the ghost was his shy and weird ex-girlfriend, who he went to college with. Later his current girlfriend finds out why the ghost haunted them through the clues the ghost left in photos.
Siren is base off Shutter, where a dead girl Catherine Lee haunts her ex-boyfriend Thinh Nguyen by giving him clues to the murderer.
Director Jorel Newsome of the Siren said that his short remake was not made possible if not for the efforts of editor DuNo Tran and director of photography Jessica Ayers.
"Oh my goodness...wow... Siren is so funny, cute, and scary. Haha nice job," Grace Youngeun Lee, a fan of Du Some Ayers Productions
Ayers said that Siren was shot at three locations: at Golden Roast, Shelbourne Apartments, and Melrose Hall.
"I used the program Final Cut Pro to edit Siren," Tran said. "And I was surprise how I did the special effects."
Another remake of the Thai movie Shutter is the American version Shutter, which is now in theaters.
"I give the U.S. remake of Shutter two thumbs down," Tran said.
