Although the Tennessee Volunteer baseball team was out-hit Tuesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, they were not out-played. The Vols used four double-plays to defeat the USC Upstate Spartans 9-4.

"We didn't play good tonight. We got out hit and we made some errors," head coach Todd Raleigh said after the contest. "But they grounded into four double-plays, and I think that was the difference."

The Vols (15-7, 4-2) used five pitchers on the night, with Ty'Relle Harris picking up the win. The junior transfer pitched three innings giving up two runs on four hits and two walks.

The Vols found themselves fighting off an early deficit after Phillip Morgan hit a two-run home run in the top of the first. Tennessee didn't trail for long as they rebounded with a five-run second inning.

Danny Lima, P.J. Polk and Cody Brown all doubled in the inning to help Tennessee regain the lead. The Vols never trailed after regaining the lead and added two runs in both the fifth and seventh innings.

Jeff Lockwood had an RBI single in the fifth, and Cody Brown also scored in the inning on a wild pitch that reached the backstop.

The Vols extended the lead in the seventh when Kentrail Davis scored on another wild pitch. Brown then tacked on the final run for Tennessee when he scored on a Josh Liles groundout.

Lima and Polk led the Vols on the night with two RBIs a piece. Brown, Liles and Lockwood also drove in runs.

The Volunteers now take a two-game win streak into a weekend series with SEC foe Auburn this weekend. Tennessee enters the series in a four-way tie for second place in the Eastern division.

"We seem to play a lot better than this on the weekend," Raleigh said. "We just need to take our weekend approach during the middle of the week."
