Pat Summit and the Tennessee Lady Volunteers advanced to the NCAA tournament's Sweet Sixteen for the 27th consecutive year with a 78-52 win over Purdue Boilermakers Tuesday night.
The top-seeded Lady Vols defeated Purdue on the Boilermakers' home floor, marking the second consecutive year the Lady Vols have gone on the road to win their second round game.
Tennessee jumped out to a 35-8 lead in the opening minutes and never looked back, in stark contrast to the team's first round game against Oral Roberts.
Candace Parker had 24 points to lead the Lady Vols and Alexis Hornbuckle added 14. Nicky Anosike just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
The win gave Pat Summit her 100th NCAA tournament victory and added to UT's perfect record in first- and second-round games. The Lady Vols are now 42-0 all-time in the opening two rounds of the tournament.
Tennessee will now play Notre Dame in regional semifinals Sunday in Oklahoma City. The fifth-seeded Irish defeated Oklahoma 79-75 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
