The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles refused to go down easy. Eventually Pat Summit and her Tennessee Lady Vols enforced their will upon their opponent, though, pulling away for a 94-55 victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in West Lafayette, Ind.
Tennessee led by only 14 at halftime but outscored the Golden Eagles 46-21 in the second half to cruise the 39-point victory.
The Lady Vols (31-2) had five players score double-digits. Angie Bjorkland led all scores with 16 points and All-American Candace Parker added 14 for the Lady Vols, who moved to 41-0 all time in first- and second-round games in the NCAA tournament.
Summitt's Lady Vols have now won seven consecutive tournament games in the NCAA tournament including their run to the 2007 National Championship.
Oral Roberts finished sixth in the Summit League regular season standings but won three consecutive games in the conference tournament earn the conference's automatic bid.
The outmatched Golden Eagles saw the majority of their offensive of numbers come from Jenny Hardin and Rachel Watman, who combined for 31 of 55 points.
Tennessee will take on the ninth-seeded Purdue Boilermakers in the second round Tuesday on Purdue's home court. The Boilermakers upset eighth-seeded Utah 66-59 to advance to the second-round.
