After months of renovation, Rocky Top Café reopened in the University Center Monday, March 10.  New options include Sbarro, Mayfield Ice Cream and Jump Asian, which will not be open for another few weeks.

Quiznos is still an option as a grab-and-go station and Burger King has some new choices.  They now offer onion rings, a "Tendercrisp" chicken sandwich and apple and Hershey pies.

In addition to more options, several new features have been added.  There is now a cash register at every station, allowing you to get your food, pay and leave while only standing in one line.

The cafe is open Monday through Thursday until 7:30 p.m., and Fridays until 5 p.m.

“We expect to serve 2,000 students a day,” said Mary Patterson, marketing director for ARAMARK on campus. “There’s no other Burger King near here, so we expect it to be a popular spot.”

The student reaction seems to be positive so far.  During lunchtime Monday, there was a line going out the door to get a slice of Sbarro pizza.

“It looks nice,” said freshman Zack Hayden, who was enjoying his slice of pizza. “I’ll probably eat here about twice a week.”

Rocky Top still does not accept meal equivalency.  They will, however, accept Dining Dollars, All-Star and Diner’s Club.

On March 24, there will be a grand opening celebration to formally open Rocky Top.

It is defiantly nice to have some more variety in on-campus dining! Glad I have a bunch of dining dollars I need to use up...

Is it ironic that your name is fries?!
Great article, I'm looking forward to tasting some of the new outlets!

Yes, Ian, it is somewhat ironic. However, my name is actually pronounced "freeze" like it's cold, so it doesn't have quite the same charm.
