Recently, fake passports were mailed to UT students outlining Ready for the World events.  Though these events have been happening all year, many students do not know what they are.

“I think [Ready for the World] is some international thing,” said sophomore Pamela Price, though that is as specific as she could get.

Ready for the World: The International and Intercultural Awareness Initiative is a major part of diversifying UT’s campus, in addition to preparing students for a global society, according to UT’s Web site .

Ready for the World will prepare our students, faculty and staff for success in an ever-changing global society," former UT Chancellor Loren Crabtree said. "It is an absolute necessity to provide our students the education and experiences they need to thrive."

The initiative entails restructuring curriculums to include cultural-aware themes, sending more students abroad and recruiting more international students and faculty.

In addition, the Ready for the World Café operates in the Hermitage Room from Monday through Wednesday.  Ready for the World events occur almost daily.

Ready for the World started in 2004 as UT's Quality Enhancement Plan, a requirement for re-accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  Five-year goals were set in 2005 by Crabtree, though the initiative is expected to survive past those goals.
