The Lady Vols softball team continued their dominance as they improved their win streak to 11 games after sweeping the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbia, Ga.
The No. 4 Lady Vols (19-1) started off the weekend on Friday, beating Charlotte 8-4 and Hofstra 5-2. Shannon Doepking hit her first homerun on the season to lead the Lady Vols run production against Charlotte. Tiffany Huff and Erinn Webb both had homers to lead the Vols in game two.
Megan Rhodes got her sixth and seventh wins of the season with a combined 10 strikeouts in 9 and 1/3 innings of work.
Ashton Ward secured two wins of her own on Saturday as the Lady Vols defeated Florida State 8-5 and Illinois State 5-2. Ward had six strikeouts in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Jennifer Lapicki had a three hit performance driving in four runs against Florida State. Chandra Mogan had two RBIs against Illinois State and Tonya Callahan had a perfect game at the plate with four hits in four appearances with an RBI.
Ward and Rhodes split the work against Nebraska, combining for a shutout in a six inning 9-0 win. The two combined for seven strikeouts and allowed three hits apiece. Rhodes got credit for her ninth win.
Callahan only had one hit in the game, but it was her third homerun on the season. Tiffany Huff had three hits and three RBIs.
The Lady Vols are finished with their early season tournament stretch. They will host Tennessee Tech on Wednesday before a visit to Alabama for their first conference series.
