The Vols tennis team powered past four different teams over the weekend.

  • Vols Track and Field: The No. 3 men's track and field team came away from the Penn State National Invitational with two wins and an NCAA automatic qualifier. Richard Wooten won the shot put with a season best throw of 56-0 ½. Rubin Williams won the 200 invitational section with a time of 20.76. The time automatically qualifies Williams for the NCAA Championships.
  • Vols Tennis: The No. 24 Vols had a solid weekend, nearly sweeping all four opponents in two days of play. On Thursday the team swept both Furman and The Citadel, 7 - 0. Sunday the Vols first put away ETSU 5 - 2 before beating UNC Wilmington, 7 - 0.
  • Vols Swimming and Diving: The Aqua Vols lost their second straight meet last weekend in a close meet, as the team fell against the Georgia Bulldogs 160 - 140. Jonas Perrson, Brad Craig, and Michael Wolfe all had two individual victories.
  • Lady Vols Swimming and Diving: The Lady Vols fell to Georgia 161 - 139 over the weekend. Christine Magnuson led all Lady Vols with three individual wins. Michelle King also added two individual wins.
  • Lady Vols Tennis: The Lady Vols had a three team sweep this week. They first beat North Carolina on Monday in a close battle 4 - 3. On Saturday the defeated Illinois and Purdue, 6-1. Caitlin Whoriskey and Jennifer Meredith won all three of their individual events during the week. Whoriskey also teamed with Zsofia Zubor to win all three of their doubles matches.
  • Lady Vols Track and Field: The Lady Vols came away from the Penn State National Invitational with four wins. Katie Van Horn won the Individual 5000-meter event with a time of 16:41.72, Courtney Champion won the 60-meter in 7.39 and Annie Alexander won the shot put with a throw of 53-3.7 5/16. The team of Sarah Bowman, Brittany Jones, Phoebe Wright and Brittany Sheffey won the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 11:13.64.

This Week

  • Vols tennis will host Clemson on Friday and Illinois on Sunday.
  • Lady Vols tennis travel to Wake Forest on Sunday.
  • The Vols and Lady Vols track and field teams will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington.
  • The Vols and Lady Vols swimming and diving teams will host Florida this weekend. The Lady Vols neet will be on Friday, with the men's meet coming Saturday.
