The University of Tennessee offers many unique opportunities for students wanting to gain understanding and benefit from real-life experiences. One such unique offer is the exceptional chance to study abroad in a completely different country, culture and environment.

To provide more information for students wanting to take advantage of this offer, the University is hosting a Study Abroad Fair. This informational fair will be held on January 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.

Students who chose to attend this fair will receive crucial information on making the decision to study abroad. Such information will consist of summer, semester and yearlong opportunities. Faculty members that participate in the Study Abroad program will be there to answer questions. Students who have studied abroad will also be there to share their experiences and knowledge about the program. Worrying about the financial issues of studying abroad? The fair will also host informational booths about scholarships, financial aid and volunteer opportunities to assist in payment of abroad programs.

Students that have participated in the Study Abroad program all agree that it is a beneficial and life-changing experience.Students that have participated in the Study Abroad program all agree that it is a beneficial and life-changing experiance. Studying abroad provides independence and knowledge that students would otherwise not receive in the usual university setting. Claire Jones, a junior in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, studied abroad for a full year in France. "It was an amazing experience, and has provided me with some of the best memories of my life. I would never have had the chance to do anything like this if I hadn't chosen to study abroad," Claire states, "plus it looks great on my resume!"

Students who attend the fair will also have the chance to register to win a first-class, 15-day, 18-country Eurail pass. This pass is valued at over $1,100 and has been donated by STA travel.

The Study Abroad Fair will also feature a booth with information about the newly developed program, "Where in the World is Smokey?" This program features an exciting new way for faculty members and students to share pictures and videos of their traveling activities via the internet.

Each semester, the Study Abroad Fair is a huge success, drawing in over 1,000 attendees. Last semester, over 700 students from The University of Tennessee studied abroad in different countries, such as Mexico, France, Scandinavia, and countless others.

Having the chance to study abroad is a rare opportunity that can shape a student's future and mindset. Studying abroad is also an important part of "Ready for the World: The International and Intercultural Awareness Initiative". This program seeks to encourage diversity and intercultural knowledge among students and staff members of the University. Students, as always, are encouraged to participate in and take advantage of all The University of Tennessee has to offer.
