I didn't have the inspiration to dedicate the entire column to anything specific tonight, but I did feel the need to say something about a boatload of different things.
This is the only place on the internet with mentions of American Idol, Pacman Jones and Matt Rock all together.
Guaranteed.
- First of all, the American Idol audition shows should be viewed on every TV in the world. Anyone who watched Tuesday night knows what I'm talking about, but if you didn't get to see it try to find a video of the guy who wrote his own song about not having sex. It will be worth your while. The best news? It's on again Wednesday night.
- In Matt's Rock's "Rock the Nation" column from Sunday night I had a couple comments I needed to get out there. I had originally inserted these as editor's notes in the column, but he didn't like that too much and I took them out.
- First of all, his buddy's quote about the Pats paying the refs at halftime was pretty good, but if that doesn't work they can always check their videotapes.
- A reader already made my second point on Rodney Harrison's "youth is overrated" quote, but that statement coming from a known HGH user is highly ironic.
- There should be no bigger punishment for the football players involved in Friday night's incident, so stop clamoring for more. There is a pre-established policy the coaches must follow in this situation, and if they stray from it only more problems would arise. And yes, that policy is in line with the majority of other major programs in the country.
- On that note, I thought Fulmer did a great job filling out the coaching staff. From what I've read and heard Clawson, Drayton and Scott should be very good fits in Knoxville. This year's recruiting could suffer because the changes came late in the recruiting season, but look for big things down the road.
- I thought all of UT's juniors made the right decisions regarding leaving for the NFL. Jerod Mayo has already earned his degree and will be taken on the draft's first day. When that is the case there is no faulting the player for jumping at the big bucks. Arian Foster will return and become the Vols' all-time leading rusher next year barring injury. Also a good decision.
- There's an episode from the opening season of How I Met Your Mother called "Nothing Good Ever Happens After 2 A.M." Pacman Jones should take a look at that one.
- The Colts were too concerned with upstaging the performance of the Patriots passing game and it cost them Sunday's game against the Chargers. There was no excuse to not hand Addai the ball more.
- With that said the Chargers match up much better with the Pats than this year's Colts. Without Freeney the Colts lacked the pass rush needed to pressure Brady, which is essential if anyone is going to upset New England. The Chargers, on the other hand, have exactly the type of blitzing defense that gave the Patriots problems in games against the Eagles and Ravens.
- I'm headed to Miami this weekend for a cousin's birthday. Who doesn't jump at a chance to head to South Beach in January? I won't be typing a column with my championship game picks, so here they are. I'll take the Pats 27-20 and Packers 24-14.
