Beginning last fall, Vols for Hillary has campaigned diligently to see that it's candidate receives the nod for the presidential nomination when the Democratic Party convention rolls around in August.
Vols for Hillary, lead by Chris Parham, 20, has actively campaigned for Clinton by getting friends involved, registering voters and more. According to Parham, the group has participated in call banks since before the Nevada caucuses.
"We actually had a phone bank in which students called into Nevada urging people to caucus for Hillary," Parham said. "After she won that early contest, it really motivated students to continue making calls for Hillary. Vols for Hillary made hundreds and hundreds of phone calls, if not in the thousands, both on campus and at the Hillary HQ in Knoxville."
This is one of the most exciting races in the past several decades ... The thought of the first female president or the first African-American president is incredible. Chris Parham, Vols for HillaryThough Parham believes that there are a number of reasons to support Hillary Clinton in her bid for the Democratic nomination, he feels that the American health care system is in a dire situation and Clinton is the candidate that will provide a solution to the problem.
"Her plan covers the 47 million people in this country, including 9 million children, who don't have health care," Parham said. "Fixing the health care crises in America is critical, and I think Hillary Clinton is the candidate that will fix it."
Now, nearly a month removed from Clinton's win in Tennessee, Parham, a first time presidential voter, is happy to be a part of an election carrying such historical significance.
"I've heard people say this is one of the most exciting races in the past several decades. I would agree with that," he said. "The thought of the first female president or the first African-American president is incredible."
