Did You Know...18.6 percent of our presidents are sluts

They were rumored to have illegitimate children, naughty mistresses, scandalous affairs and the label of being downright slutty. Did I mention I was talking about the past leaders of our nation?

According to Who2.com, eight of our past presidents had alleged or admitted sex scandals. Because sex and politics go hand in hand, is it really that shocking that a few of our presidents got around?

For time purposes, I will list my top five scandals. It was very hard to narrow them down, but three had to get the boot. Counting down the scandals, number one will be, I believe, the most scandalous of them all.

Coming in at number five, we have Warren Harding. Harding was a ladies man. Who2.com tells a rumor of a $20,000 payoff to Carrie Phillips, his mistress, to keep quiet while he ran for president.

Another woman, Nan Britton, later wrote a book called, "The President's Daughter," divulging her affair with Harding and the daughter she had from it.

Number four goes to John F. Kennedy. JFK was young, tan and attractive. He had eventual sex scandal written all over him. There would be not just one offense, though. Multiple affairs surrounded Kennedy.

Two of his famous conquests, besides his wife Jackie, are Marilyn Monroe and Judith Exner. Exner was introduced to JFK in Palm Springs by Frank Sinatra. I guess pretty, famous people stick together.

Because sex and politics go hand in hand, is it really that shocking that a few of our presidents got around? Franklin D. Roosevelt holds the place at number three. His affair with a woman named Lucy Mercer is especially shameless because his wife, Eleanor, had hired Mercer as her secretary. Eleanor found out about the affair, but it did not stop there.

This not-so-secret relationship survived through Mercer's marriage, FDR's polio and his eventual death in Georgia. This romance played out more like an epic romance than a salacious sex scandal. People would probably think it was a representation of love overcoming all obstacles if it were in a movie.

Unless you live under a rock, you know about Bill Clinton, my number two pick. Good 'ole Bill. How funny would it be if Hillary became El Presidente and had an affair? Something like that wouldn't happen if the country were run by a woman, especially Hillary Clinton.

Bill Clinton and an intern, Monica Lewinsky, had a series of, as Who2.com calls them, "brief sexual encounters." Lewinsky should have read the fine print before accepting the internship.

The president that holds the number one spot for most scandalous sex scandal is Thomas Jefferson. This scandal went through 200 years of gossip, investigation and DNA testing. Starting as a rumor, Jefferson was said to have fathered a child of the slave, Sally Heming, in 1802.

After DNA testing in 1998, Jefferson, or one of his close relatives, was said to be the father of Heming's son, Eston. Not only was this scandalous for the time period, but Jefferson was said to have recorded the birth dates of six of Heming's children in his diary.

As time goes on, the sexual adventures of our presidents are getting more difficult to keep secret. Can't presidents conduct their illustrious sexual behavior in peace anymore? Let's face it, presidents, like girls, just want to have fun.

Will the same thing happen in the upcoming presidency?

Whether you think they are good, bad or just plain ugly, the people with power are just like the rest of us. They try to get away with things, but more often than not, justice prevails.

I like this piece a lot. It's really funny stuff. I've heard some of those stories in passing, but I never knew all the details. And I never heard the one about Harding.

John Kennedy, though he was young and attractive, got his tan from Addison's disease.

According to DNA testing, the father of one of Sally Hemings children may have been someone related to Thomas Jefferson's father, since TJ didn't have any male children that lived into adulthood; and thus, no male descendants from which to extract DNA for testing.

The most plausible explanation is that TJ's brother was the father of one of Hemings children, he was a ne'er do well and a black sheep who liked to hang out in the slaves quarters and "get his drink on."

Further, it is worth noting (in light of the title of your article) that by all accounts, Sally Heming was "as common as pavement" (in modern parlance, she was rather free with her favors). So there are quite probably a good number of DNA contributors from which her descendants can choose. ;)

According to Who2.com, the eight presidents with admitted or alleged sex scandals:

  1. Thomas Jefferson
  2. Grover Cleveland
  3. Woodrow Wilson
  4. Warren Harding
  5. Franklin Roosevelt
  6. Dwight Eisenhower
  7. John F. Kennedy
  8. Bill Clinton
