Two bestselling authors signed their novels for fans Saturday night at Books-A-Million on Kingston Pike.

Bill Bass and Jon Jefferson, authors of "Carved in Bone," "Flesh and Bone," and "The Devil's Bones," signed more than one hundred books and personalized many for their readers beginning that evening at 6.

Jefferson and Bass make up The New York Times bestselling author Jefferson Bass. They have two nonfiction books about the science surrounding the Body Farm and three forensic fiction novels filled with suspense and horror.

Bass, who was the head of the UT anthropology department for 23 years, set up what is now known worldwide as the Body Farm.  This facility, established in the early 1970s, is located behind the University of Tennessee Medical Center and has been host to more than 300 volunteer body donations.

The study of the donated corpses has lead to a wealth of knowledge concerning the decomposition rates and habits concerning bodies in different environments. This knowledge has formed the basis of this popular book series as well as provided invaluable information to law enforcement.

Jon Jefferson has been published in The New York Times, Newsweek, USA Today and Popular Science. He also wrote and produced two National Geographic films about the Body Farm.

Jefferson and Bass said they can have anywhere from 30 to 50 signings on their promotional tours. Their current tour promotes "The Devil's Bones," the most recent addition to their growing collection.

"You do occasionally get writer's cramp," Bass said with a slight chuckle.

The pair signed almost every copy that Books-A-Million had in stock just in case readers missed the signing but would still like an autographed version of the books.

Jefferson Bass will be holding his next signing at Kingston Public Library in Kingston, Tenn., on Thursday, March 6.

At book signing, what is the "take away" that has the most lasting value? RSVP info@verbatimit.com - Certainly publicists, and especially authors don't want to encourage writer's cramp, but when a fan has those 15 to 20 seconds with an author, if the author's comments were recorded, transcribed and printed while the fan (now browsing or in a check out line) she/he could receive an "instant souvenir" to encourage loyalty. Verbatim Instant Transcripts www.verbatimit.com is doing this very thing every day, and right now...
