Spring break 2008 is right around the corner, but it's not too late to make plans to get out of Knoxville for the week. You can go to almost any travel agency to book a trip, but STA Travel , located in the University Center at UT has the best deals for students looking to get away.

Beaches
- Jamaica is one of the best spring break destinations in the Caribbean for its laid back charm, ultimate activities, nightlife and fun. Negril's 7-mile beach is considered one of the top three beaches in the world.
- The Bahamas has some of the clearest, most amazing water in the world. The local hospitality, heritage, tradition and fun are unrivaled.
- Cancun is the ultimate spring break destination with beautiful beaches, great shopping and amazing nightlife. Cancun is perfect for the student who wants to do it all
Mountains
- Breckenridge, CO is known as the "gem of the West." It offers 146 trails on over 800 acres. Breckenridge also offers great restaurants featuring amazing views.
- Killington, VT, named "the legend of the East, offers seven mountains and 200 trails. Getting more than 250 inches of snow per year, you are guaranteed to have fresh powder.
- Heavenly, CA, in Lake Tahoe, attracts snowboarders from around the world. It offers 91 different runs and receives over 360 inches of snow a year as well as plenty of sunshine and a great party.
Volunteer
- Turtles are endangered in Costa Rica. On the Turtles and Treetops trip, you will spend your time rescuing turtle eggs from beaches all the while living on decks in the treetops.
- Another trip to Costa Rica involes surfing and saving sea turtles. This trip is similar to the treetop experience, however participants have the opportunity to take daily surfing lessons at a local surf school.
- On the third volunteer trip option, you will be working with a housing association building houses for Costa Rican families.
Last year, I went to Miami and it was the best spring break ever. Shaneka Williams One student, Shaneka Williams, a senior in exercise science said "Last year, I went to Miami and it was the best spring break ever." She plans to go back this year.
While spring break is always a lot of fun, there are some safety tips that should be observed. The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network offers the following tips to keep you safe during your trip.
- Get to know your surroundings before you go out and learn a well-lit route back to your hotel
- Form a "buddy system" with close friends
- Always trust your instincts; if you feel unsafe in any situation, go with your gut
Getting out of Knoxville for spring break is a great way to unwind and relieve some of the pressure of classes and college life in general.
