For the second time in four days, the top-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers jumped out to a big lead to open a game.
This time, however, they did not let it go to waste as the team left Nashville with an 81-68 victory over No. 25 Vanderbilt on Sunday.
Candace Parker scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Vols. Angie Bjorklund and Alex Fuller added 15 and 14 points, respectively, to help Tennessee bounce back from Thursday's loss to LSU.
The Lady Vols (23-2, 9-1 Southeastern Conference) outscored Vandy 17-2 over the games first six minutes in a similar start to the LSU game.
In that contest UT owned a 21-2 advantage early before allowing the Lady Tigers to comeback and win the game.
The Commodores (19-7, 8-3) fought back to get within six at the half and managed to trim the lead to one point at 51-50 with just under 14 minutes to play. Over the next five minutes the Lady Vols went on a 12-3 to regain control of the game, though.
Christina Wirth had 14 points and Meredith Mirsh chipped in with 11 for the Commodores, who entered the game on a season-high six game win streak.
The Lady Vols have now won 15 straight over its in-state rival and also have a 15-game win streak on the road in SEC play. The win also prevented Tennessee from dropping back-to-back games for the first time in over two years.
Both teams return to action on the road Thursday. Tennessee travels to Alabama, while the Commodores will play at Arkansas.
