A 19-point lead was not enough cushion for the Tennessee Lady Vols Thursday night at Thompson-Boling Arena. Instead, they suffered their biggest defeat of the season to the LSU Lady Tigers.
Sylvia Fowles' 17 point, 14 rebound game led the No. 7 Lady Tigers to a shocking 78-62 win over No. 1 UT.
Tennessee (22-2, 8-1 Southeastern Conference) jumped out to a 21-2 lead over LSU (21-2, 10-0 SEC) in the first half behind a dominant Candace Parker. Parker scored 17 points as Tennessee lead 33-30 at the half.
However, with 16:28 left in the game LSU took the lead at 35-34 and never looked back.
The win leaves LSU as the only remaining team undefeated in SEC play.
LSU shrugged off their early struggles and chipped away at Tennessee's early lead. The Lady Tigers shot 50 percent from behind the arc in the first half, and eventually led 30-29 late in the half.
The second half belonged solely to the Lady Tigers, though.
LSU outran and outhustled the Lady Vols on their way to 25 points off turnovers.
Tennessee never seemed to find their offensive rhythm in the second half, missing their first six shots.
Candace Parker's 26 point, 10 rebound game led Tennessee. Alexis Hornbuckle, the team's second leading scorer on the season, shot just 3-11 from the field.
The loss snaps Tennessee's 17-game home winning streak and overall streak of 12 straight wins.
Tennessee returns to action Sunday at Vanderbilt with tip-off scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised on FSN.
