The university has opened a new office to assist students who want to apply for prestigious scholarships. The scholarships, like Rhodes and Gates, are for students who have completed their undergraduate degrees.

According to Professor Emerita Anne Mayhew, the former vice chancellor for academic affairs and director of the new office, each year more students are interested in applying for these scholarships.

"We have more students who have the superb academic records and abition required to compete successfully for these scholarships," Mayhew said.

The Office of External Scholarships will serve the students by working one-on-one with students on their applications.

Students are eligible to complete the application in the early fall of their senior year. Pre-applications are due to the new office by March 31 of the junior year.

The office is located in F101 Melrose Hall.
