Three West Tennessee natives will sponsor a clothing drive for students affected by the devastating tornadoes at Union University in Jackson, Tenn.  The clothing drive began Monday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. and will end Monday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m.  Men's and women's clothing, toiletries and monetary donations will be accepted and can be dropped off at the Panhellenic building around 5 p.m.

I think it's just kind of life-changing once it happens to you. Leigh Ann Wilhite, clothing drive coordinator

Leigh Ann Wilhite and Mary Maxwell of Alpha Omicron Pi and Ginia Barnes of Phi Mu, all three from Boliver, Tenn., were devastated to hear about the overwhelming loss caused by the tornadoes, and decided to provide clothing and necessities for students at Union University.

"I have a friend in Jackson who actually goes to Union University, and I found out that the tornado had taken almost everything of hers and her roommates'," Wilhite said.

Union University also hosts many foreign exchange students from over 30 countries that cannot go home immediately, and according to Wilhite, literally "have nothing." Around 200 people are expected to participate according to a Facebook event created by Wilhite.

"On Facebook. I invited 200 people and it raised up to a thousand people.  I have about 200 confirmed guests, but I'm hoping for a good turnout," Wilhite said.

For more information about the clothing drive call Wilhite at (731) 695-2150 or visit the Facebook event page.
