The Tennessee Lady Vols returned home after a trip to Starkville, Mississippi to host seventh ranked Rutgers. Lady Vols won a controversial contest 59–58.
The game was a bit unfamiliar as the home crowd wore pink for the theme of Think Pink Night in awareness of cancer. Rutgers contributed by wearing pink jerseys throughout the game and both coaches wore pink in their outfits.
Tennessee got off to a fast start and lead by eleven at halftime of the contest. Rutgers come into the game with a lot of confidence after recently defeating the top ranked team in the country Connecticut.
Tennessee started the second half cold only shooting six percent at one from the field and allowed Rutgers the first ten points on the half. The game went back and forth and was real interesting in the end with a couple of controversial calls.
Rutgers was clinging to a one point lead when Tennessee got two attempts at the basket then a second offensive rebound by a Nicky Anosike and was fouled but the clock stalled with two tenths of a second left before a foul was called. Anosike went to make the two free throws to the Vols up by one. The second controversial call was the ensuing inbound pass by Rutgers when the whistle blew and seemed to be a foul on Tennessee and the officials ruled the ball out of bounds and that time had ran out.
The next game for the Lady Vols will be Thursday night as the host the other undefeated team in SEC conference play LSU. Tip Off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
