The Humanities/Social Sciences building and McClung Tower were evacuated on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. due to a bomb threat. The buildings were immediately cleared out after UT police received a suspicious call concerning a possible bomb. There were no injuries from the evacuation.

Amy Blakely, assistant director of media relations, said UT police requested assistance from the Knox County Sheriff's Department and a team which included bomb experts and bomb-detecting dogs arrived shortly.

A UT ALERT text was sent to inform students of the present danger.

Holly Morris, a sophomore in Elementary Education, was heading to class when the alarm blared through the building. She said, "I just thought it was a fire drill, just a test."

I just thought it was a fire drill, just a test. Holly Morris,  sophomore in Elementary EducationShe felt more worried when she received the text message.

Morris believed that UT did a great job of responding to this situation and other crises. "They are good about letting us know about it through texts or emails."

Rob Stillman, a professor at UT, said the UT police are getting better at actively clearing people away from the scene. Stillman was teaching when the alarm sounded.

"I wasn't really concerned, but the students were," Stillman said.  He said that once a person is here for awhile, evacuations become routine.

At 3:30 p.m., UT declared the building to be safe and allowed everyone back in.
