Vols tennis among weekend winners

The Lady Vols tennis team fell in a close match over the weekend.

With the Vols and Lady Vols basketball teams winning all of their games this week, they joined several other UT teams and individuals who had winning weekends.

  • Vols Track and Field: A small group from the second-ranked Vols traveled to Lexington for the Rod McCravy Memorial. Michael Hogue was the lone winner for the Vols, winning the pole vault with a clearance height of 17–0 3/4. Nathan Grace set a personal record in the 200 with a time of 21.86. Mike Brodsky and Brent Smith both set personal records in the Mile with times of 4:20.45 and 4:21.93, respectively.
  • Lady Vols Track and Field: The Lady Vols had two winners over the weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial. Sarah Bowman won the mile with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:37.86. Bowman also posted a provisional time in the 800 meter with a 2:07.32, good enough for fourth place. Katie Van Horn was the other event winner on the weekend, taking the 3000 meter event with a personal indoor record of 9:35.97.
  • Vols Tennis: The tennis team played Clemson and Illinois over the weekend, winning both meets. On Friday, the Vols defeated Clemson 4 – 3. On Sunday, the Vols defeated No. 8 Illinois 4 – 3. Kaden Hansel, Davey Sandgren and J.P. Smith each won both of their individual events. All three Vols doubles teams also won two matches.
  • Lady Vols Tennis: The Lady Vols tennis team suffered defeat this weekend when they traveled to Wake Forest and lost 4 – 3. Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsófia Zubor won their individual matches but were upset in their doubles match.
  • Vols Swimming and Diving: The Aqua Vols got back to their winning ways, beating Florida in a close meet 160 – 140. Jonas Persson led the Vols with two individual wins in the 100 and 200 Freestyle. Persson was also part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team. Michael Muscari two diving events for the Vols.
  • Lady Vols Swimming and Diving: The Lady Vols suffered another close loss this weekend. The Lady Vols swim team fell to Florida on Friday, 156 – 144. Christine Magnuson led the Lady Vols in her last meet at the UT Student Aquatic Center. Magnuson won the 200 yard freestyle, 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly events, and she was part of the winning team in the 200 yard medley relay.

This Week

  • Vols tennis will travel north this weekend and face Louisville on Friday and Kentucky on Sunday.
  • Lady Vols softball will play in the Cathedral City Kickoff in Palm Springs, Calif. Over the weekend. The Lady Vols will play UC Davis, Utah State, Oregon, Cal Poly and Organ State over three days.
  • The Vols and Lady Vols track and field teams will be back in action on Friday and Saturday. The Vols will be attending the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York and the Lady Vols will be attending the Virginia Tech Challenge.
