The University of Tennessee has named Doug Blaze as the new dean of the College of Law.  Blaze has been a UT faculty member since 1993 and recently has been serving as the interim dean for academic affairs.

Blaze will be replacing John Sobieski, who will return to being a full-time faculty member within the College of Law.  Sobieski has served the position since August 2006.

I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to work with everyone involved -- faculty, students and alumni -- to make a great place even better.Doug Blaze

Blaze has been honored with seven awards of excellence, including the Thomas Jefferson Prize for Excellence in Research and Creative Activity in 2004 and the Harold Warner Outstanding Teacher Award in 1997.

His book, "The Law of Negligence in Arizona," which he co-authored with Jefferson Lankford, was released in 1992.  More recently, he has published "Sum and Substance Quick Review of Civil Procedure."  He has also written and published more than ten substantial articles.

"The UT College of Law is exceptional," Blaze said in a UT press release.  "We are blessed with talented faculty and staff, bright and committed students, and a unique curriculum that successfully bridges the gap between theory and practice.  I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to work with everyone involved -- faculty, students and alumni -- to make a great place even better."

Blaze received his law degree from Georgetown University after earning his bachelor's degree at Dickenson College in 1976. He has previously served on the faculty of the University of Arizona.
