On April 20, the University of Tennessee's Delta Delta Delta sorority will host the 23nd Annual TriDeltathon.

"The TriDeltathon is a miniature version of a real triathlon.  It begins with a 400 meter swim, followed by a six-mile bike race and ends with a three-mile run," Emily Woods, the philanthropic chair of the sorority, said.

The race will begin at 8 a.m. at the Student Aquatic Center on UT's campus and will follow a course that wraps around the entire university. The triathlon is open to the general public, and more than 400 men and women are expected to register to participate in this year's event. Individuals have the option to compete individually, or can register to compete in teams of three.

The sorority will be partnering with Race Day Events to host the event. Proceeds will benefit Camp Eagles' Nest for East Tennessee Children's Hospital. In 2007, the sorority raised just under $20,000 for the children's hospital and hopes to raise more money with the 2008 race.

"Of course we'll always accept donations," said Woods, regarding additional ways to get involved in the TriDeltathon. The event is open to anyone, and those who do not choose to participate are still encouraged to come and cheer on the competitors.

To register for the race, visit the race Web site. The registration fee is $50.  For more information about the TriDeltathon and more ways to get involved, contact Emily Woods at ewoods5@utk.edu.
