For a few summers, the farmland of Manchester, Tenn. has played host to the biggest music festival that nobody knew about.  Now entering its seventh year, the Bonnaroo Music & Arts festival has gained international recognition, even if some of its allure is less than factual.

After internet rumors spread that Led Zeppelin would be appearing at the 2008 festival as part of their reunion tour, festival organizers had to quickly kill the myth.  Instead, the all-female group Lez Zeppelin will take the stage to pay tribute to their namesake.

However, that error will not stop nearly 100,000 people from crowing onto a 700-acre farm for all the music they can stand.

"If you can get past the heat, then it'll be the best time of your life." Matthew Jones, a sophomore at the University of Tennessee.  For many, this is a good trip to plan for the summer time, with its convenient location in mid-Tennessee.  Matthew Jones is one many students planning the trip.  He first attended the festival in 2007 and has already bought his ticket for this summer.

The festival, June 12-15, is often compared to Woodstock 1969.  Surprise Bonnaroo performers The Police drew a huge crowd in 2007, proving that contemporary artists aren't the only ones fans come to see.

This year's festival features several acts who have withstood the test of time including The Allman Brothers and B.B. King, as well as newer sensations Kanye West, Jack Johnson and The Raconteurs.

"There's a wide variety of musicians at Bonnaroo, even rap," Jones said.

Jones explained that the cost of the tickets, $209.50 - $244.50, is not as bad as it seems.  "When you divide the number of bands by the cost, it's cheaper than you can see any of them alone," he said.

Some fans run into problems when deciding which of their favorite bands to attend.  "Sometimes shows interfere with each other, but for the most part, you'll get to see whoever you like," Jones said.

Bonnaroo will also feature stand-up comedy from Brian Posehn, Mike Birbiglia and stand-up star Chris Rock.

There is RV parking for those who travel to the festival, but many campers do it the old-fashioned way.

Festival-goers often stay in tents to avoid commuting to the site every day.  Old clothes are recommended because it can get dirty.  Be sure to pack sunscreen and hats to fight the heat.

Drinking water and showers will be provided at several locations in the campground.  There is a general store and food vendors on the grounds.  ATMs are available, though they suggest bringing enough money to avoid long lines and mechanical trouble.

After buying a ticket and braving the crowds, Bonnaroo will be an unforgettable concert experience.  It might not even be possible to see all 125 acts, but that is no reason not to try.

Bonnaroo is organized by AC Entertainment.

I go to Bonnaroo every year! It's SO amazing, and it's all you think about all year long; what happened the past year, and what will happen for the next festival! It's easily the most amazing place to be - no matter where you're from, that farm in Manchester, TN ALWAYS feels like "home"!!! I hope more people discover ROO!!!
