What's the point of spending your spring break at home, when home is D.C. and there happens to be two-days worth of protests during an election year. I picked up my camcorder and headed downtown to capture my first first-hand experience in an anti-war protest.
Five years ago the U.S.-led (insert preferred term here) into Iraq. I figured I may as well play liberal for a day and cover the protest.
I saw democracy at it's best. Though I don't agree with the protestors, these young men and women were voicing their opinions with police protection. Ironic that the protestors think we've done so much harm to a country that, before we came, would execute citizens that disagreed with their government.
My favorite clips are the ones of the girl in slow motion waving the peace sign, and the one of young man in blue with the sign that says "war is not the answer." Their faces are so peaceful and telling of them. They aren't doing anything violent; just walking down the street with others so that, if nothing else, the world knows they are not okay with what our government is doing in Iraq.
