Vols tennis wins twice; track and field shines over weekend

The Vols tennis team is tied for second in the SEC East.

Vols Tennis: The Tennessee men's tennis team finished the weekend with a pair of wins over SEC rivals. The Vols defeated Kentucky and Vanderbilt by a combined score of 13-1. The team is now ranked eighth in the nation.

Vols Track and Field: No. 3 Tennessee set many new regional qualifying times in Auburn, Ala., at the Tiger Track Classic. Evander Wells earned qualifying times in both the 100 and 200 and Matthieu Pritchett qualified in the 100.

De'Lon Isom and Charlton Rolle set qualifying times in the 110 hurdles, and the 4x100 team of Pritchett, Wells, Kyle Stevenson and Blake Jones qualified as well. Joseph Berry had a qualifying jump in the pole vault.

Rubin Williams, a 14-time All-American, competed at the Stanford Invitational, winning the 200 and finishing second in the 100.

Lady Vols Track and Field: The Tennessee women's track team had a strong performance at the Pepsi Florida Relays. Shanna Dickerson and Annie Alexander earned two regional qualifying marks apiece.

Celriece Law, LaTonya Loche, Jeneba Tarmoh, Lynne Layne, Sarah Bowman, Phoebe Wright and Alicia Essex all set regional qualifying marks. The 4x100 team consisting of Tarmoh, Loche, Layne and Cleo Tyson set a qualifying time as well.

Vols Golf: The Tennessee men's golf team finished in 10th place with a 5-over par at the Administaff ASU Invitational. David Holmes was the top finisher for Tennessee, finishing in 15th place at 1-under par. UCLA won the tournament at 19-under par. Georgia and South Carolina each finished in the top five.

Lady Vols Tennis: The Tennessee women's tennis team dropped road matches to Vanderbilt and Kentucky over the weekend. The No. 17 Lady Vols were shutout, 7-0, by Vandy and fell 5-2 to Kentucky. Zsófia Zubor won her singles match and teamed with Caitlin Whoriskey to win a doubles match against Kentucky.
