Spring is here, show some love

A rare sighting of PDA on campus

Despite the advent of warm sunshine and deliciously cool breezes that are beginning to make these longer days imminently more enjoyable, it seems there is less PDA (public display of affection) on campus now than ever.

There are no couples locked in stairwell-blocking embraces. No shouts of "Love ya! See you later!" to be heard. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a tongue wagging, unless the pre-class gossipers count.

Put down the cell phone and take off your shirt if you have to, but embrace the season. No sloppy kisses, no embarrassingly-tight-for-everyone-else hugs, nobody laying on top of each other in the amphitheater in front of the Humanities building.

Aren't we college students? We're supposed to be making our professors roll their eyes and talk amongst themselves about how racy, nonchalant, young, stupid, naïve, disgusting, forward, astonishing, and promiscuous we are!

The single among us have no visible or audible reasons to feel that pang in their stomach, spurring them on to find a mate of their own with which to (not) propagate the species.

Chatting quietly between classes and blasé waves goodbye display a lack of imagination.  Texting somebody a sweet nothing isn't the same as saying it face-to-face. Sitting on a bench with your eyes glazed over, munching a bagel, is less intellectually inspiring than making out.

Spring is in the air, folks: take advantage of it. There's no better time of year or excuse for questionable behavior than a warm, sunny spring day, or night.

Put down the cell phone and take off your shirt if you have to, but embrace the season.

Consider this a call to action.
