It was a picture perfect Sunday afternoon at Regal Soccer Stadium as the Lady Vols soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to six games against the Florida Lady Gators.
Forward Kylee Rossi and goalkeeper Jaimel Johnson led the way as Tennessee defeated the Lady Gators 2-0 in the match-up of the two SEC East powers.
Florida's first threat of the day was turned away as Ameera Abdullah's shot was stopped by Johnson's acrobatic deflection. It was the beginning of a frustrating afternoon for the Lady Gators.
Despite outshooting the Lady Vols by a 22-8 margin in the game, the Lady Gators failed to score as Johnson stood tall in net. She finished with a career high 11 saves.
While Johnson kept the Lady Gators off the scoreboard, it was junior forward Kylee Rossi who put the Lady Vols on the scoreboard.
Rossi's first goal came just over four minutes into the game as Florida goalkeeper Meghan Berlingo overplayed a ball in front of the goal and Rossi lofted it over her head and into the net for an early lead.
The junior's second goal came in the 21st minute as she came from the left side of the field and blistered a shot into the opposite corner past Berlingo for a 2-0 Tennessee lead.
The two goals gives Rossi four in her career against the Gators and also gives her a total of four in 2007.
The Lady Vols spent much of the second half on the defensive.
Florida hit the crossbar on a pair of occassions, but failed to find the scoreboard as Tennessee picked up the win over the defending SEC champions.
With the win the Lady Vols (7-1-1, 2-0 SEC) continue the best start in school history.
The team will be in action again on Friday as they kick-off a four-game road trip in Baton Rouge against LSU. They will continue the road trip Sunday against Arkansas.
