Katie Rodgers is no ordinary journalism student at the University of Tennessee; she is the editor-in-chief of the Tennessee Journalist.

Rodgers came onto the site in May of 2007 when Caroline Peyton, her predecessor, left. She officially became the editor-in-chief on August 1. Prior to coming into her position Rodgers had not worked for the website.

Rodgers has taken on her new responsibility with ease. She is in constant contact with the site and staff, whether it be editing stories, answering e-mails or up-dating the site. "There's a lot to do, but I really enjoy it," said Rodgers.

"There's a lot to do, but I really enjoy it,"Katie RodgersIn her time as editor-in-chief, Rodgers has come across some interesting things. She said the funniest thing she has encountered involved a recent piece about Britney Spears. The story got around 1300 hits. She thought it was odd but was pleased with the increased viewership.

For Rodgers headlines are the most frustrating part of editing. She said that headlines are what grab a viewer's interest and draw them in. However, she said that she is pleased with her staff's reaction to tips and criticism this semester and that they are improving with each suggestion.

The news site has a very important event coming up on October 12. "The site is turning one [year old]," said Rodgers. She wouldn't give much away about plans for the birthday celebration, except that there would be some birthday articles and that the site may see a revision in set-up.

Rodgers hopes to see the Tennessee Journalist grow over the next few years and would like to see an increase in viewership. Her advice to future reporters and editors is to "Keep your eyes open, there are stories everywhere."
