While most people's attention was focused on the Volunteer football team, there were other teams in action this weekend as well.

  • In tennis, Davey Sandgren and J.P. Smith lost their championship match to Amrit Narasimhan and Charlie Ramsay of Memphis 8-6 on Monday. The Vols will resume play Saturday at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-America Champions in Tulsa, Okla.
  • The Lady Vol soccer team defeated UNC Greensboro 2-1 Friday night. The win improves their record to 5-1-1, with a four game win streak, before they begin conference play. Emily Redberg scored a goal and sophomore Mick Imgram scored the game winner. The Lady Vols begin conference play Thursday Sept. 27 at home against South Carolina. The game will be televised on FSN.
  • The VolleyVols picked up a victory on Friday over Georgia but fell to 7-4 after losing to Georgia in a close five game match on Sunday. Jean Berg collected her fifth consecutive double-double with 56 assists and 24 digs. Leah Hinkey led the offense with 14 kills. The Lady Vols travel to Lexington Wednesday Sept. 26 to face Kentucky before returning home to face Arkansas Saturday Sept. 30.
  • Sarah Bowman had another strong performance for the Lady Vols cross country squad, finishing as the top collegiate performer in the Bulldog Stampede in Athens, Georgia. Bowman has been the top collegiate runner in every race she has participated in this season. Next weekend Bowman and the rest of the cross country team will travel to Pennsylvania for the Paul Short Run.
  • After a week off last week the men's golf team and cross country teams will return to action this week. The golf team will travel to Chicago for the Olympia Fields Illini Invitational while the cross country team will travel to Louisville for the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic.
