Bike riders from UT are rallying together to participate in an age-old tradition called Critical Mass. On Friday, Sept. 28, UT bikers will gather in one formation and ride throughout the city of Knoxville to promote awareness.

Critical Mass has been at UT for a number of years. The promotion of this event, however, is very limited. Advertisement is mainly through word of mouth and a few fliers.

I feel they resent bikers. --Stephanie Packham

Stephanie Packham, a sophomore at UT, has been a habitual biker for little over a year. She is planning on participating in Critical Mass if she is able.

"I feel they resent bikers," said Packham, in reference to the cars on the road. "People have the right of way on the sidewalk and the cars have it on the street, so bikes have no place to go."

Packham has had constant run ins with pedestrians, and is hoping that Critical Mass will help show everyone that bikers need some of the sidewalk or street.

Critical Mass is a tradition that has continued in every part of the world. Little is known about it since there is no official website. However, keep your eyes open around 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 to see UT's own Critical Mass.
