The Office of Professional Practice will host 65 companies for the 2007 Engineering Fair Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the University Center Ballroom from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Any student enrolled in the College of Engineering is eligible to attend the fair, but it is primarily for students looking for co-ops and internships, according to Samantha Harris, administrative assistant of the Office of Professional Practice.

"Students benefit from attending the Engineering Fair in many ways," Harris said. "Through this process, they must introduce themselves to employers and give them their resumes. This process allows them to exercise their interview skills.  They are able to learn about all different types of companies and what qualities they look for in an employee.

"This information is invaluable upon graduation," she said.

However, not only the students benefit from the event. Organizations that attend can receive year-round updates on students looking for internships, said Harris. "By attending the fair, they are exposed to many other companies that are looking for similar qualities in students and therefore are able to keep their own company informed on the latest hiring trends," she said.

"If a student has a goal of full-time employment upon graduation, than it only makes sense to attend the fair and meet with employers who can help mold them for the best opportunities possible upon graduation," she said. Even if students aren't looking for an internship or co-op, the fair is still useful by allowing them to make connections with employers, she said.
