The University of Tennessee has many different clubs and societies to help steer students in the direction of their future careers. One such society and/or club is the Society of Professional Journalists, or SPJ, which will be hosting an informal "meet the pros" event on Monday 17.
The Society of Professional Journalists is a group for journalism students interested in internship opportunities, career opportunities or at the very least, just being around, and conversing with, other journalists. Each year, it appears as if SPJ grows more an more. Last year a group of members went to HGTV Studios for an experience in working with the professionals. Each year SPJ takes day-trips, as well as weekend trips to different places in order to "meet the pros".
On Monday 17, at 7 p.m., at Charlie Peppers on the Cumberland Strip, SPJ is going to holding a low-key "meet the pros" session, for anyone who may be interested. Any student interested in coming should prepare questions to ask about things such as, writing resumes, internships, career opportunities and anything else that may come to mind.
There are two professionals on the guest-list. Executive editor of The Daily Times in Maryville, Larry Aldridge, will be attending as well as John Houtari, who is the East Tennessee SPJ "Pro" chapter president and a reporter for The Oak Ridger.
