The University of Tennessee has partnered with a free and legal downloading service to provide students with unlimited music downloads at high speed.
Ruckus Network Inc. is a provider of free and legal digital entertainment service for college students. Any student with an .edu e-mail address can access more than 3 million songs and videos from the Ruckus library. UT has partnered with Napster and Ctrax previously.
Ruckus is specifically for college students and higher education.
This time around, UT is providing especially fast downloads. "UT students will be able to download an album in literally seconds," said Jay Mayfield, UT spokesperson for Ruckus.
Students can sign up for Ruckus by registering with their UT e-mail address. Music downloaded through Ruckus stays on the user's computer, but those who wish to upload their music onto a portable MP3 player can sign up for the premium service at a discounted rate.
Ruckus has added new features for the 2007 school year, including "The Perfect Dorm" contest. This contest gives users a chance to win great prizes, such as spring break getaways, a laptop, XBOX 360 with Guitar Hero and more. Another new feature allows users to interact with each other and share their Ruckus experience through Facebook.
More than 8,000 students have already signed up with Ruckus, and there has been more than 1.5 million music downloads. For more information on Ruckus contact Jay Mayfield.

Thank you for emphasizing that you cannot put this music on a portable device.
The Daily Beacon ran an article about Ruckus with a huge picture of an i-pod, which I think could have been confusing to some.
