Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals will be performing at the Tennessee Theatre at 8:00 p.m. on  September 11. This show will be a part of his promotional tour for his new album, "Lifeline," which was released on August 28.

"Lifeline," Harper's ninth studio album, which was recorded in a brief, seven day period at a recording studio in Paris, has matured along with the artist. Harper has phased out his earlier hard-hitting electric tunes and kept his rhythmic acoustic sound throughout his entire new album which is pumped full of a neo-gospel styling that could bring some listeners to their knees.

The album opens with "Fight Outta You," a slightly upbeat and catchy tune that instills listeners with a sense of optimism and a command to take a stand.

The third track on the album is the first change you see from the opening optimistic tracks. "Fool for a Lonesome Train" opens with a very appropriate harmonica intro into a blues-style (hence the track title) ballad of mishaps and regrets.

"Fool for a Lonesome Train" first lets you know that this album is not based solely on one or two emotions or themes. As the album plays on, one track will force tears of repentance from your eyes and the next is waiting to bring you back up, ready to boogey.

The album closes with the title track and really sums up what this album is trying to address; the scope of emotion throughout life, the "Lifeline." Harper sings, "I could hold out for a lifeline/ yours or mine/ yours and mine/ can't you see me reaching for your lifeline."
