The U.S. Department of Energy and Oak Ridge National Laboratory will join forces to present the 2007 DOE Day of Science on Monday, Oct. 29 at the Knoxville Convention Center. More than 1,000 people from nationwide universities are expected to attend.
"The 2007 Day of Science gives you access to job fairs, internship opportunities, options for closer work with national labs, and the chance to find out about some of the most exciting new areas in scientific research," said Raymond L. Orbach, undersecretary for science at the DOE, on the Day of Science Web site.It can provide students with internships doing research earShawna Bussell, Consultant in the Public Service Careers Program lier on.
This year's Day of Science is a bit different than previous years, said Shawna Bussell, consultant in the Public Service Careers Program.
Before, only undergraduate students were allowed to partake, but now graduate students are just as welcome. Non-U.S. citizens may also attend for the first time.
The Day of Science can benefit both the student and the organization looking for applicants, Bussell said.
"It can provide students with internships doing research earlier on, and DOE has a hiring need due to so many people retiring," she said.
