Tennessee high school students will compete in the UT Pro2Serve Math Contest Thursday, Oct. 25, in the Alumni Memorial Building Cox Auditorium for the chance to win four-year tuition scholarships at $4,000 per year to UT.

In addition to the 10 scholarships, which are awarded to the top individual winners, students are eligible to win certificates, engraved plaques, trophies and medals.

"The purpose of the contest is to promote interest in mathematics among Tennessee high school students, to encourage them toward careers in mathematics, science, and engineering, and to recognize their mathematical prowess," the math contest web site states.

The students will first participate in a multiple-choice exam dubbed the FERMAT I. The top 50 students from that test will then go on to take the FERMAT II. The Math Bowl will pit three-member teams against each other in a double elimination competition.
