With solid performances against Vanderbilt and Kentucky last weekend, freshman midfielder Tanya Emerson has been named the Tennessee Journalist's Lady Vol of the week.

Emerson scored the golden goal against the Kentucky Wildcats on Friday to lead the Vols to a 1-0 victory in their fifth overtime game of the season.

Emerson continued her strong weekend Sunday at Vanderbilt, as she helped to create the first goal of Sunday's 3-1 win against the Commodores and scored the final goal of the match in the 89th minute to put the game out of reach.

"We were really excited to come out with a couple wins last weekend," said Emerson, "We just go out there to play and things have been coming together the last few games."

On the season Emerson, a California native, has three goals in 13 games for the Lady Vols. She has started 12 of the team's matches.

Emerson and the Lady Vols soccer team will look to build on last weekend's success with a pair of home games this week.

Friday the team squares off against Ole Miss at 7:00 p.m. before a Sunday matchup with Mississippi State at 2:00 p.m.

"Ole Miss always provides us with a challenge. They're a good team, very well coached," said Lady Vol head coach Angela Kelly. "It's great for us to be at home and the team's been playing well lately."
