While the football team once again stole all the headlines, several under-the-radar teams at Tennessee were in action during fall break.

  • The Vol golf team finished the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges tournament in Jonesborough, Tenn., tied for fifth. Junior Chris Paisley finished the tournament at 10-under-par, claiming the individual title by two strokes over Maryland's Chris Gold and Kent State's John Hahn. Paisley shot a course-record 64 on Saturday and parred 14 holes on Sunday to finish the day with even par. The team has finished in the top-10 in 10 out of 11 tournaments. The Vols will travel to Greensboro, Ga., for the Calloway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championships on Oct. 28-30.
  • The Vol swim team had their exhibition Orange and White game on Friday. The Orange won 147-146. Senior Octavio Alesi won the 50 and 100 freestyles while freshman Geoffrey Sanders won both the 1000 freestyle and 200 butterfly competitions. Other winners were junior Nolan Morrell (500 freestyle) and Brad Craig (200 breaststroke). The Vols kick off their regular season on Oct. 20 at Louisville at 11 a.m.
  • The Vol cross country squad finished in 26th  place at the Blue Race of the 8K ISU Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. Andrew Press led the team once again, crossing the finish line at 24:19.4 to place 72nd in the field of 261 competitors. Denton Jones finished in 24:49.8 for 128th while Steve Tobin and Michael Spooner placed third and fourth for Tennessee, finishing in 161st and 167th place, respectively. Yarrick Kincaid scored for the first time crossing in 25:21.0. Tennessee competes again Oct. 27 at the 8K SEC Championship in Gainesville, Fla.
  • The Vol tennis team lost all four of its single matches Saturday at the Charles Fluitt Invitational in Lexington, Ky. Chris Racz lost to Kentucky's Brad Cox 6-3, 7-6(7) in the first round. The team returns to action to Friday at the ITA Southeast Individual Indoor Regionals.
  • The Lady Vol golf team finished sixth in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships. Diana Cantú finished as the team leader in round three with a one-under-par 70. The team travels to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Oct. 29-31.
  • The women's soccer team ended a four game road trip by beating Vanderbilt 3-1 on Sunday, improving their record to 9-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play. Junior forward Kylee Rossi scored the game winner for the team in the 60th minute. The team finished the road trip with a record of 2-1-1. The Lady Vols next host Ole Miss at 7 p.m. on Friday Oct. 19.
  • The VolleyVols (8-9, 3-7 SEC) were able to beat No. 18 LSU on Friday but failed to keep it going against Ole Miss Sunday, falling 30-19, 25-30, 30-25, 24-30, 15-5. Despite the loss, there were a few bright spots as sophomore Farren Powe, freshman Nikki Fowler and sophomore Jena Berg recorded the first, sixth and 12th double-doubles of their careers. Next on the schedule is Louisville on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Louisville.
