Tennessee finally got its first road win of the season with a comeback victory over Mississippi State Saturday afternoon.
Freshman kicker Daniel Lincoln had a career day, and huge games from Arian Foster and Lucas Taylor helped the Vols escape Starkville with a 33-21 victory.
Coming out of the half leading by just a field goal, the Vols received the kickoff and drove down the field, with Foster carrying the ball in from a yard out to give extend the margin to 24-14 in favor of the Volunteers.
The Bulldogs answered on the ensuing possession as they narrowed the gap to 24-21 on a touchdown catch by Jamayel Smith.
Daniel Lincoln then kicked three straight field goals to provide the final score of 33-21. The freshman set a career high with four made field goals in the game.
After forcing Mississippi State to punt on the game's opening possession, the Vols jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Erik Ainge to Chris Brown.
The Bulldogs responded with a touchdown on their next possession when quarterback Wesley Carroll found Tony Burks in the end zone to even the score at seven.
Mississippi State then took the lead at 14-7 on a 30-yard touchdown run by Anthony Dixon before Tennessee reeled off 10 straight points, including a 51-yard touchdown grab by Taylor, to take a 17-14 lead into halftime.
Taylor had 11 catches for 183 yards and a touchdown in the game, while Foster had 147 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Mississippi State got a solid outing from Carroll, as the freshman finished with 201 yards through the air and two touchdown passes. Dixon had 108 yards rushing and a score for the Bulldogs.
Next week the Vols (4-2, 2-1 SEC) will once again take to the road when they travel to Tuscaloosa for a match-up with the Alabama Crimson Tide, while Mississippi State also goes on the road with a visit to the Mountaineers of West Virginia.
