Many Tennessee athletic teams took to the road last week. The Vol Tennis team was in action, while the Lady Vols Volleyball, Soccer, Tennis and Golf teams all competed as well.
- Vol Tennis: William Lang and Jeremy Tweedt won the "B" draw in doubles at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia. They defeated Hill/Motes (UGA) 8-3 in the finals as the pair of freshmen won their first tournament as partners. The tennis team returns to action this weekend at the Charles Fluitt Invitational in Lexington.
- Lady Vol Tennis: The All-American Tennis Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. saw the winning of the doubles final by Tennessee's team of sophomores Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsófia Zubor. Whoriskey and Zubor pulled off four upsets to win the tournament. They upset No. 7 Diana Srebrovic/Csilla Borsanyi (Fla), No. 4 Riza Zalameda/Yasmin Schnack (UCLA) and No. 2 Federica van Adrichem/Ani Mijacika (Clem) before facing No. 3 Kristi Miller/Whitney McCray (GT) in the finals. In the finals, they won 7-5, 6-3.
- Lady Vol Volleyball: The VolleyVols suffered a pair of losses last weekend, starting at South Carolina on Friday. After winning the first set 30-23, the Lady Vols dropped three straight sets 30-27, 30-23, 30-22. Then on Sunday, the Lady Vols travelled to No. 6 Florida. They were unable to defeat the Lady Gators as they lost in straight sets, 30-27, 30-18, 30-18. This week, the VolleyVols host LSU on Friday and Ole Miss on Sunday.
- Lady Vol Soccer: The Lady Vol soccer team started their four game road trip with a 3-0 loss to LSU on Friday. On Sunday, the Lady Vols made the trip to Arkansas hoping to find their winning ways. Emily Redberg scored in the first half to put the Lady Vols up 1-0; however, a goal by Lindsay Patterson of the Lady Razorbacks in the second half led to a 1-1 tie. The road trip continues this week when the team travels to Kentucky on Friday followed by a trip to Vanderbilt on Sunday.
- Lady Vol Golf: The Lady Vol Golf team nearly upset the three-time defending national champions this weekend at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational. After leading on Saturday by two strokes, the Lady Vols almost held off Duke in the final round but fell short by two strokes. The effort was still good enough for a second place finish. Diana Cantú was the top Lady Vols player finishing in a tie for a fifth place at even par. It marked the sophomore's career best performance. This weekend the team hosts the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships at the Cherokee Country Club.
