At 7 p.m. Sunday, a furnace on the 4th floor of the communication building caught fire. No one was injured, and no serious damage was done to the building.
We saw the fire trucks go whizzing by.Zach Hill, a freshman at UTA professor in his office saw the smoke and immediately called the fire department. Three police cars, six fire engines and an ambulance arrived at the scene.
Zach Hill, a freshman at UT, saw the fire engines and trailed them to the fire. "We were going to the strip to eat, and then we saw the fire trucks go whizzing by. We decided to come over and investigate."
The motor had shorted out in one of the coils of the air conditioning unit which caused the fire.
Sarah Surak, MPA Public Relations, said that situations like this rarely occur. "We service the units annually to prevent this from happening." said Surak. There are between 3,000 to 4,000 units in the communications building that must be serviced.
More information is still being gathered about the fire.
