A public auction is scheduled for the University of Tennessee Surplus Warehouse on Oct. 9. This department is in charge of disposing of university surplus property. Although these auctions do not have a set schedule, they occur about every five to six weeks.
Since the site is available for use by other university departments across the state, a more diverse selection of items can be found. Christine Riggs, accounting specialist at UT Surplus Warehouse "Items in these auctions are normally used and consist of desks, tables, chairs, computer systems and other assorted items that are no longer needed within university departments," said Christine Riggs, accounting specialist for UT's Surplus Warehouse.
There are around 250 lots of different surplus property items. Winning bids must be paid for by 3 p.m. on Oct. 9, and all property must be picked up by Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
There are also internet auctions that consist of the same items as the live auctions.
"However, since the site is available for use by other university departments across the state, a more diverse selection of items can be found, particularly farm and agricultural equipment and other industrial type items," Riggs said.
The live auction will begin Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. at the Business Services Warehouse, 2111 Stephenson Drive and will run until completed.
