Dr. Kuangdi Xu, current president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and former mayor of Shanghai, is scheduled to come and speak to students in the College of Engineering. Dr. Xu has been elected as a Foreign Member of the National Academy of Engineering in the U.S. and is also an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Way Kuo, dean of the College of Engineering said, "Last year, President Xu was granted the foreign membership by the US National Academy of Engineering and he is coming to D.C. this year to receive the award and to address at the US National Academies in Washington D.C. Therefore, we feel it is logical to invite President Xu to visit UT-Knoxville and Oak Ridge National Laboratory."

President Xu's talk will focus on addressing the progress of iron and steel research and development in China. Kuo said, "I expect him to share with the UT faculty and students about many related issues including international collaborations and some of the energy-related subjects."

The event will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 3 in the Shiloh Room of the University Center from 1:30 P.M.-2:30 P.M.
