Sleep is wonderful, or so I am told. Between meetings, class assignments, and my job, sleep has become more of an unaccomplished goal rather than the necessity for survival that it should be.
My usual day starts at 8 a.m. with a quick shower and a large cup of coffee. Then I'm out the door at 9:15 and I walk to my three back-to-back classes. At 2 p.m. I rush like a mad woman back to my apartment, where I pop my frozen lunch in the microwave, get changed, shovel food down my gullet and get out the door so I can be at work at 3.
Sunday is the day I fit in all the sleep that I lost Monday through Saturday.I usually work until 8 p.m., which puts me back at my apartment around 8:30. I then pop my frozen dinner into the microwave and eat as I begin my homework. Oh, but wait. I probably have a meeting of some kind to attend at 9 p.m. So off to my meeting that lasts about an hour and then I'll swing by the library to finish my homework, but only after a quick Starbucks run for yet another large cup of coffee. I usually leave the library around midnight.
Most nights I'm in bed by 2 a.m. and up again by 8 a.m. Six hours of sleep a night isn't too bad, but it begins to take a toll on me by the end of the week. Thank God for Sundays. Yes, Sunday is the day I fit in all the sleep that I lose Monday through Sunday.
Students are very busy and I am no exception. Perhaps one day bosses and professors will understand the importance of sleep, but until then I'll keep my coffee.
