George Crabtree, senior scientist and director of the materials science division at Argonne National Laboratory, will talk about ways to conserve energy. His presentation "The Global Energy Challenge" will focus on new energy technologies available.

In his presentation, Crabtree will mention the dangers of the use of fossil fuels on our environment and climate. He will explain there is no single solution to the conservation of energy, but a diversity of sources is required. Crabtree will also focus on solar energy and how we can use it to meet future energy needs.

The Argonne National Laboratory is the nation's first laboratory and is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's largest research centers.

Research at Argonne falls into five broad categories:

  • Basic science
  • Scientific facilities
  • Energy resources
  • Environmental management
  • National Security

Crabtree's presentation will be on Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the Shiloh Room at the UC.
