Christmas in the City, Knoxville's "most anticipated winter festival" according to the City of Knoxville Web site, will be holding its Regal Celebration of Lights. The celebration will be along Gay Street at Krutch Park.
On the evening of the day after Thanksgiving, city residents gather to watch the annual lighting of the First Tennessee Foundation Christmas Tree. The many wreaths and banners are decorated with thousands of white lights, turning Krutch Park into a sparkling Christmas tradition.
Attendees of the event will have no problem finding entertainment. Music and shows will be provided by several local bands and choirs, and radio stations WDVX and WIVK will be hosting different forms of entertainment and contests.
Also, for the third consecutive year, Holidays on Ice will be opening Knoxville's seasonal and only outdoor ice-skating rink.
Local merchants will line Market Square for holiday shopping. There will be horse-drawn carriage rides, a fire pit and a marshmellow roast.
Children will also be able to decorate cookies with Santa Clause and have story time with Mayor Bill Haslam.
The Celebration of Lights will be on Nov. 23, starting at 6 p.m.
