The No. 1 Lady Vols raised their seventh championship banner Sunday at Thompson-Boling Arena, and raised their level of play as well, as they beat No. 22 Texas 92-67.
UT got off to a fast start and had already scored scored 24 points a little over five minutes into the game.
The Lady Vols used pressure defense and efficient three-point shooting to execute their game plan. Texas committed 30 turnovers, and the defending champions shot 9-18 from three-point territory.
Candace Parker led all scorers with 21 points to lead four scorers in double figures. Parker also had seven rebounds.
Alex Fuller scored a career-high 18 points off the bench, while freshman Angie Bjorklund had 16 points including four 3-pointers. Alexis Hornbuckle contributed 13 points and five steals.
UT returns to action on Wednesday at West Virginia. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
