The Lady Vols held off the Oklahoma Sooners for a 70-67 win in the ESPNU Invitational Thursday night in St. Petersburg, Fla.
All-American Candace Parker led the team with 28 points and 15 rebounds as the defending champions started their season 2-0.
The Sooners fell to 0-2, as 19 points from Courtney Paris were not enough to get the team their first victory of the season after losing to Maryland on Sunday.
This marks the third straight loss for Oklahoma dating back to last season when they lost to Ole Miss 90-82 in the NCAA Tournament.
Shannon Bobbitt scored a career high 27 points for UT, with 22 coming in the second half. She clinched the victory with two free throws with three seconds left in the game.
Senior guard Alexis Hornbuckle only had five points, but two came from the free-throw line with 21 seconds left to put the Lady Vols ahead for good.
The Lady Vols return home to take on the Texas Longhorns on Sunday at 3 p.m. on ESPN2.
UT will raise its championship banner, and the players will receive their championship rings on Sunday as well.
